// Why I built it

It started mid-ride, in the mud.

I was out on a ride when it hit me: I couldn’t remember the last time I’d waxed my chain. The bike needed some love and I knew it — but I had no idea when I’d last touched half of it. When did I refresh the tire sealant? When did I change the shifter batteries? On a well-kept bike, the simple stuff — a clean, a fresh chain — fixes most problems before they start. But only if you can remember to do it.

The tracking was the worst part. Paging through a notebook trying to find the last entry. Opening Strava to check the mileage, then writing that number down on a notepad by hand. It was the kind of friction that meant I mostly just… didn’t.

So I went looking for something better. A notes app first. Then a spreadsheet. Neither really worked. Then I downloaded every maintenance platform on the market — the free ones and the paid ones — and none of them were good. Some made onboarding so painful I gave up before I’d added a bike. Others were so trivial they tracked nothing worth tracking. There was no easy way to do the thing I wanted to do.

So I built it. I’m not a software developer by trade — I’m a cyclist who wanted this badly enough to make it exist. Megylla is the maintenance platform I wanted and couldn’t find.

I’m a member of the Cadieux Bike Club and the Michigan Gravel Grinders. I race gravel and mountain, and I’m out on the roads and trails around Michigan as much as the season allows.

Megylla runs on every bike I own — all four of mine, plus my kid’s. I’m not building a product I demo once and set aside; I’m keeping my own garage on it, the same way you would. When something about the platform annoys me on a ride, it gets fixed. That’s the whole quality-control department, and honestly it works better than most.
